Living an Uncommon Life with John St. Augustine
John St. Augustine has been dubbed “the new voice of America” by veteran broadcaster Charles Osgood. As the host of his own daily radio talk show for a decade, he had heart-to-heart conversations with thousands of extraordinary guests, including Dorothy Hamill, Cheryl Richardson, Earl Hamner, Catherine Crier and Wayne Dyer.
In Living an Uncommon Life: Essential Lessons from 21 Extraordinary People he distills ten years’ worth of collective wisdom into essential lessons, heartfelt, funny, and down-to-earth, to help readers achieve their own extraordinary dreams.. St. Augustine saw a pattern in the lives of the exceptional personalities he crossed paths with both on and off the air. Each of them refused to let negative circumstances dictate their life; instead, they found the inner strength to achieve great things. St. Augustine believes we all share these remarkable strengths and traits and in Living an Uncommon Life he offers powerful principles for unlocking your personal best.
John’s own life story is woven throughout his book and proves that he ranks among his most extraordinary guests. At the lowest point in his life, after moving into the motel rooms where he would live with his wife and two children for the next year, St Augustine undertook a miraculous journey. In an effort to raise money for the children of his community, he walked from Michigan to Chicago and back! This journey of a thousand miles became a journey of discovery, a chance for St. Augustine, whose business ventures had failed, to reinvent himself. It was on this walk that the idea for a radio show came to him; a show that would be a positive voice in a world saturated with cynicism and negativity. Despite the fact that he had no experience in radio, a local station gave him a chance; one hour a week for five weeks. That started a career that led to a daily show for ten award winning years and 5,000 guests from all walks of life.
St. Augustine is living his dream, creating a forum for positive expression that results in real change With Living an Uncommon Life he offers readers the inspiration and knowledge for reaching their own dreams. While this book features some truly amazing people, it’s not about them. “It’s about you. It’s about the choices you make, the thoughts you think, the words you say and the deeds you do. No matter how low things may look at this stage of your life, know that an uncommon life is possible for those who seek it,” says St. Augustine.
John is also a popular motivational speaker and a three-time winner of the Michigan Association of Broadcasters “Best Talk Host” award.
Currently, St. Augustine is as producer for “Oprah & Friends” on XM Satellite Radio where his nationally syndicated motivational one-minute “Powerthoughts for Living an Uncommon Life” can be heard daily beginning September 25, 2006.
A Chicago native, St. Augustine divides his time between the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Chicago.
